Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker with strainer
  • Champagne flute or coupe glass
  • Small plate for salt
  • Measuring jigger or shot glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Citrus juicer or reamer
  • Knife and cutting board

Ingredients

  • 2 oz silver tequila
  • 1 oz triple sec or another orange liqueur
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1 tsp agave syrup optional, for sweetness
  • 3 oz champagne, cava, or prosecco chilled
  • ice cubes
  • lime wedges for garnish
  • salt for rim, optional

Instructions

  • Run a lime wedge around the rim of the glass.
  • Dip the rim into salt on a small plate.
  • Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
  • Add tequila, triple sec, lime juice, and agave syrup.
  • Shake for 10–15 seconds until cold.
  • Strain into the prepared glass.
  • Top slowly with chilled champagne or sparkling wine.
  • Garnish with a lime wedge.

Notes

Use dry sparkling wine to balance the sweetness. Cava or prosecco make great substitutes for champagne. Serve immediately after adding sparkling wine to preserve fizz. Avoid stirring after topping with champagne.
