Equipment

  • Small saucepan
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Whisk
  • Heatproof mug or cup
  • Mixing bowl (for large batch)
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Serving glasses
  • Small spoon

Ingredients

  • 2 chai tea bags
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1.5 cups eggnog store-bought or homemade
  • 0.5 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract optional
  • whipped cream for topping, optional
  • extra nutmeg or cinnamon for topping

Instructions

  • Heat water in a small saucepan until hot but not boiling.
  • Add chai tea bags and cinnamon sticks. Steep for 5–7 minutes. Remove tea bags and cinnamon.
  • Whisk in eggnog, nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla extract (if using). Warm gently—do not boil.
  • Pour into mugs. Top with whipped cream and a dusting of nutmeg or cinnamon if desired.

Notes

Steep chai a little longer for a spicier kick (but not more than 7 minutes). Whole cinnamon sticks add a rounder spice than ground. For a lighter version, mix half eggnog and half milk. Serve in clear mugs for a festive look and top with whipped cream and extra nutmeg.
