Equipment

  • Copper mug
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or shot glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Strainer
  • Citrus juicer
  • Ice scoop or tongs

Ingredients

  • 2 oz bourbon or caramel pecan whiskey
  • 4 oz ginger beer chilled (up to 6 oz to taste)
  • 0.5 oz fresh lime juice
  • 0.5 oz simple syrup or ginger syrup optional, for more sweetness
  • 2 dashes aromatic bitters
  • ice cubes enough to fill mug
  • lime wedge for garnish
  • pecan half for garnish
  • cinnamon stick for garnish

Instructions

  • Fill your copper mug all the way up with ice.
  • In a shaker, mix together the bourbon, lime juice, syrup, and bitters. Shake briefly.
  • Strain the mixture into the mug over the ice.
  • Top with cold ginger beer.
  • Stir gently to blend but keep the bubbles.
  • Garnish with a lime wedge, cinnamon stick, or pecan half as desired.

Notes

Use ginger syrup for more spice, simple syrup for softer sweetness. Adjust ginger beer to taste. For less sweetness, skip the syrup. Garnish adds aroma. Copper mugs keep the drink extra cold.
