Equipment

  • Old-fashioned or rocks glass
  • Jigger or shot glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Small plate
  • Peeler or zester
  • Ice
  • Muddler

Ingredients

  • 2 oz bourbon or whiskey
  • 1 oz apple cider
  • 0.5 oz caramel syrup or caramel sauce
  • 2 dashes aromatic bitters
  • ground cinnamon pinch, or cinnamon stick for garnish
  • thin apple slice for garnish
  • caramel sauce optional, for rimming glass
  • ice ideally a big cube

Instructions

  • If rimming glass, dip rim in caramel sauce and set aside.
  • Pour bourbon, apple cider, caramel syrup, bitters, and a pinch of cinnamon into the glass.
  • Stir with a bar spoon until caramel is melted in.
  • Add a big ice cube.
  • Stir again to chill evenly.
  • Garnish with a thin apple slice and cinnamon stick if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

Caramel syrup mixes in easier than caramel sauce, but both work. Use large ice cubes to keep your drink cold without diluting quickly. Adjust sweetness by changing caramel or bitters. For a festive touch, rim glass with caramel and cinnamon sugar. Rye can sub for bourbon for a spicier drink.
