Gently muddle the lime and sugar to release juice and oils—don’t overdo it.
Pour in white rum. Fill the glass with crushed ice.
Stir well with a bar spoon until sugar dissolves and drink is cold. Garnish with a lime wedge if desired.
Notes
Fine white sugar dissolves best. Drink while cold and fresh for maximum refreshment. For a twist, use flavored rum. Avoid over-muddling to prevent bitterness.
