This cozy cocktail blends rich, nutty brown butter with smooth bourbon and a hint of bitters. Velvety, toasty, and just a little bit special—a perfect after-dinner sipper for fall or winter.
Add butter to a small saucepan and melt over medium heat, whisking until golden brown and nutty.
Remove from heat and immediately pour in bourbon, stirring to combine.
Let the mixture cool, then strain through a fine mesh or cheesecloth to remove solids.
In a mixing glass, add 2 oz brown butter bourbon, 0.5 oz simple syrup, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters.
Fill with ice and stir until well chilled.
Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice.
Garnish with orange peel or cherry if desired.
Notes
Make the brown butter bourbon ahead and store any extra in the fridge. For a lighter flavor, use less butter or brown it for less time. Try orange or walnut bitters for a twist. Fresh butter and decent bourbon make a big difference!
