Add bourbon, lime juice, orange liqueur, and simple (or agave) syrup. Add tequila if using.
Shake hard for about 15 seconds until the shaker feels icy cold.
Strain into the prepared glass over fresh ice.
Garnish with a lime wheel or orange slice and serve.
Notes
Fresh lime juice is key. Maple syrup adds a cozy note while agave keeps the profile bright. For a spicy riff, muddle a slice of jalapeño; for a smoky vibe, use smoked salt on the rim. Optional splash of fresh orange juice can lighten the drink.Shake well with plenty of ice for the smoothest texture and crisp chill.
