Instructions

  • Chill your rocks glass in the freezer for a few minutes.
  • (Optional) Rim the glass with cocoa powder or sugar using a small plate.
  • In a mixing glass, combine bourbon, cherry liqueur, simple syrup, chocolate bitters, and angostura bitters.
  • Add ice and stir for about 20 seconds, just until well-chilled.
  • Strain into your chilled rocks glass over a large ice cube.
  • Twist the orange peel over the drink to release oils, then drop it in.
  • Garnish with one or two cherries and enjoy.

Notes

Chocolate bitters add subtle cocoa aroma—rim with cocoa powder for extra flavor. Adjust simple syrup for more sweetness or add more angostura for depth. Fresh cherries taste brightest, but jarred cocktail cherries also work well. A caramel-rich bourbon is best. Serve immediately for the best balance and texture.
