Equipment

  • Small saucepan
  • Mug or heatproof glass
  • Measuring spoons
  • Jigger
  • Tea strainer
  • Stirring spoon
  • Optional milk frother
  • Citrus peeler or knife

Ingredients

  • 1 bag chai tea or 1 tbsp loose chai tea
  • 3-4 oz hot water
  • 1.5 oz bourbon or whiskey
  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1 cinnamon stick for garnish
  • 1 clove or star anise, for garnish, optional
  • orange slice or lemon slice, for garnish
  • almond milk optional, for creaminess
  • vanilla extract optional, a drop for extra warmth

Instructions

  • Heat water in a small saucepan until hot but not boiling.
  • Steep the chai tea bag (or loose tea) for 4–5 minutes, then remove or strain.
  • Stir in honey or maple syrup until fully dissolved.
  • Add fresh lemon juice and bourbon. Stir gently.
  • Pour the toddy into a mug and garnish with a cinnamon stick, clove, or orange slice.
  • For a creamier drink, add a splash of almond milk or a drop of vanilla extract if desired.

Notes

Fresh spices make the biggest flavor impact. For stronger chai, steep longer or use chai syrup. Swap bourbon for whiskey or dark rum for a twist. Garnish with nutmeg or extra citrus as desired. Adjust sweetness to taste!
