Equipment

  • Highball glass
  • Muddler or wooden spoon
  • Jigger or measuring cup
  • Bar spoon or long-handled spoon
  • Ice

Ingredients

  • 2 oz vodka
  • 4-5 oz tonic water
  • 1/4 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1/2 oz fresh lime juice
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime wedge and extra blueberries for garnish

Good quality vodka makes a difference.

Instructions

  • Add blueberries to the glass. Muddle gently to release juices.
  • Fill the glass with ice cubes.
  • Pour in vodka and lime juice.
  • Top with tonic water.
  • Stir gently with a bar spoon.
  • Garnish with a lime wedge and a few blueberries.

Muddle the berries just enough to break them open. Don't crush them too much, or the drink will be cloudy.

    Notes

This recipe is easy to adjust. For a stronger drink, add more vodka. For a lighter version, use less vodka and more tonic. Frozen blueberries can replace fresh ones, and they'll also help keep the drink cold.
Try different berries like raspberries or blackberries for variety. Gin can swap in for vodka, and lemon juice works instead of lime. Serve in a wine glass for a fancy look.
You can also make a big batch for parties. Mix vodka, lime juice, and muddled berries ahead of time, and add tonic water just before serving.
