Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Muddler
  • Strainer
  • Tall glass
  • Measuring jigger
  • Bar spoon

Ingredients

For one cocktail:

  • 2 oz vodka
  • 1/4 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup
  • 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
  • Ice
  • Sparkling water
  • Extra blueberries and lemon slice for garnish

Use good quality vodka for the best taste. Fresh blueberries work better than frozen. You can adjust the simple syrup to make it more or less sweet.

Instructions

  • Add blueberries and simple syrup to the shaker. Muddle well.
  • Pour in vodka and lemon juice. Fill shaker with ice.
  • Shake hard for 10-15 seconds.
  • Strain into a tall glass filled with fresh ice.
  • Top with sparkling water.
  • Stir gently to mix.
  • Garnish with extra blueberries and a lemon slice.

The muddling step is important to release the blueberry flavor. Don't skip the shake - it helps mix and chill the drink.

    Notes

This recipe is easy to scale up for a crowd. You can make a big batch of the blueberry vodka mix ahead of time. Just add ice and sparkling water when serving.
Try using flavored vodka like lemon or vanilla for a twist. Swap the sparkling water for prosecco to make it fancier.
For a mocktail version, leave out the vodka and use more sparkling water or lemon-lime soda.
Leftover muddled blueberries make a nice garnish. You can also use them to top yogurt or oatmeal.
