Equipment

  • Copper mug (traditional but optional)
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or measuring tool
  • Muddler
  • Bar spoon
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Ice

Ingredients

  • 2 oz vodka
  • 1/2 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 cup fresh blueberries plus extra for garnish
  • 4-6 oz ginger beer
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup optional
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime wheel and mint sprig for garnish

Instructions

  • Toss the blueberries into a cocktail shaker and muddle them until they’re crushed and juicy. Don’t worry about getting it perfect.
  • Add vodka, lime juice, and simple syrup (if you’re using it) to the shaker along with the smashed berries.
  • Fill the shaker with ice and shake hard for about 15 seconds. You want it nice and cold.
  • Strain everything into a copper mug or glass packed with fresh ice. Use a fine mesh strainer so you don’t get too much pulp.
  • Top off with ginger beer and give it a gentle stir with a bar spoon.
  • Garnish with a lime wheel, some extra blueberries, and a mint sprig. Looks great, tastes even better.
  • The drink should show off a pretty purple-blue color from the berries. Serve right away while it’s still cold and fizzy.

Notes

Want it non-alcoholic? Just skip the vodka and pour in more ginger beer. If you’re after a stronger blueberry vibe, try blueberry-infused vodka.
It’s really best fresh—the ginger beer loses its fizz if it sits too long.
You can totally swap in raspberries or blackberries, or mix them up, for a different flavor and color. Why not experiment?
If you like things sweeter, bump up the simple syrup to 3/4 oz. Craving more tang? Add a bit more lime juice. There’s room to play here
