Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker or mason jar with lid
  • Muddler or wooden spoon
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Ice cube tray
  • Tall glasses (preferably collins glasses)
  • Measuring tools (jigger or measuring spoons)
  • Citrus juicer or reamer
  • Small saucepan (for simple syrup)
  • Blender (optional, for blueberry puree)

Ingredients

For the blueberry syrup:

  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest

For each mocktail:

  • 2 tablespoons blueberry syrup
  • 1 ounce 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 4 ounces sparkling water or club soda
  • Ice cubes
  • Fresh blueberries for garnish
  • Lemon slice or twist for garnish
  • Fresh mint leaves optional

The base of this mocktail is the homemade blueberry syrup, which adds both color and flavor. Fresh ingredients create the best taste profile.

Instructions

Make the blueberry syrup:

  • Combine blueberries, sugar, water, and lemon zest in a small saucepan.
  • Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  • Cook for 10-15 minutes until blueberries burst and the mixture thickens slightly.
  • Remove from heat and let cool completely.
  • Strain through a fine mesh strainer, pressing to extract all juice.
  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Prepare the mocktail:

  • Fill a tall glass with ice cubes.
  • Add blueberry syrup and fresh lemon juice to the glass.
  • Stir gently to combine.
  • Slowly pour in sparkling water or club soda.
  • Garnish with fresh blueberries, a lemon slice, and mint leaves if desired.

For a more intense blueberry flavor, muddle a few fresh blueberries in the glass before adding the other ingredients.

    Notes

This recipe can be easily modified to suit your taste preferences. For a sweeter drink, add more blueberry syrup. For more tartness, increase the lemon juice.
To make ahead for parties, prepare the blueberry syrup in advance and store it separately. Mix individual drinks as needed, or create a pitcher version by multiplying the ingredients by the number of servings (add sparkling water just before serving).
For a fancy presentation, freeze blueberries in ice cubes to add to the drinks. You can also rim glasses with sugar mixed with lemon zest for extra flavor and visual appeal.
This mocktail pairs wonderfully with light appetizers, brunch dishes, or summer desserts. It's perfect for baby showers, summer gatherings, or anytime you want a non-alcoholic option.
