Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Muddler
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Martini glass
  • Jigger or measuring cup
  • Ice

Ingredients

For one cocktail, you'll need:

  • 2 oz vodka
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1 oz simple syrup
  • 8-10 fresh blueberries
  • 4-5 fresh basil leaves
  • Ice cubes
  • Extra blueberries and basil for garnish

Choose good quality vodka for the best taste. Fresh lemon juice works better than bottled. You can make simple syrup at home by mixing equal parts sugar and water.

Instructions

  • Put blueberries and basil in the shaker. Muddle gently to release flavors.
  • Add vodka, lemon juice, and simple syrup to the shaker.
  • Fill the shaker with ice cubes.
  • Shake well for 10-15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is frosty.
  • Strain the mixture into a chilled martini glass using a fine-mesh strainer.
  • Garnish with a few blueberries and a basil leaf.
  • Serve and enjoy right away.

The drink is best served cold. So, shake it well to mix all flavors and chill the cocktail properly.

    Notes

You can adjust the sweetness by changing the amount of simple syrup. For a stronger basil flavor, add more leaves or muddle them more.
To make it non-alcoholic, replace vodka with soda water or lemonade. You can also use frozen blueberries if fresh ones aren't available.
This recipe works well for a party. Just increase the amounts to make a larger batch. You can prepare the mixture ahead of time and shake with ice just before serving.
