Equipment

  • Highball glass or hurricane glass
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Ice cube tray
  • Jigger or measuring tool
  • Bar spoon: for stirring.

  • Sharp knife (for cutting fruit garnishes)
  • Cocktail picks or straws

Ingredients

  • oz vodka
  • ¾ oz blue curaçao liqueur
  • 4 oz prepared lemonade store-bought or homemade
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • Lemon wheel for garnish
  • Maraschino cherry for garnish optional
  • Fresh mint sprig optional

For homemade lemonade:

  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice about 6-8 lemons
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 4 cups cold water

Instructions

  • Fill your cocktail shaker halfway with ice cubes.
  • Add the vodka and blue curaçao to the shaker.
  • Pour in the lemonade.
  • Cover and shake gently for 10-15 seconds until chilled.
  • Fill your serving glass with fresh ice.
  • Strain the cocktail into the glass.
  • Garnish with a lemon wheel on the rim of the glass.
  • Add a maraschino cherry and mint sprig if desired.

Notes

This cocktail can be easily modified to suit different tastes. For a stronger drink, add an extra ½ oz of vodka.
To make it less sweet, use fresh-squeezed lemonade rather than pre-made. It really makes a difference if you like a bit more bite.
For a non-alcoholic version, replace the vodka and blue curaçao with blue fruit syrup and a splash of lime juice. This version is called a "Blue Lagoon Mocktail."
You can prepare a pitcher version for parties by multiplying the ingredients by the number of servings and mixing in a large pitcher. Add the ice just before serving to prevent dilution.
Store any leftover homemade lemonade in the refrigerator for up to 5 days in a sealed container.
