Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or measuring cup
  • Citrus juicer
  • Cocktail strainer
  • Tall glass
  • Ice

Ingredients

For one Blood Orange Tequila Twist cocktail:

  • 2 oz silver tequila
  • 3 oz fresh blood orange juice
  • 1/2 oz lime juice
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup
  • Ice
  • Blood orange slice for garnish

Use high-quality silver tequila for the best taste. Fresh blood oranges make a big difference in flavor compared to bottled juice. Simple syrup can be made by mixing equal parts sugar and hot water until dissolved.

Instructions

  • Fill the cocktail shaker with ice.
  • Add tequila, blood orange juice, lime juice, and simple syrup to the shaker.
  • Shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds to chill and mix the ingredients.
  • Fill a tall glass with fresh ice.
  • Strain the cocktail into the glass.
  • Garnish with a blood orange slice.
  • Serve right away while the drink is cold and fresh.

The bright red color of the cocktail looks great in a clear glass.

    Notes

This recipe can be easily doubled or tripled for serving multiple people. For a less sweet version, reduce or skip the simple syrup.
Blood oranges are in season during winter months, but you can use regular orange juice as a substitute year-round.
Try rimming the glass with sugar for extra sweetness. To make it stronger, add an extra 1/2 oz of tequila.
For a non-alcoholic version, replace the tequila with sparkling water or ginger ale.
