Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or measuring cup
  • Citrus juicer
  • Bar spoon
  • Ice
  • Tall glasses

Ingredients

For each cocktail, you'll need:

  • 2 oz vodka
  • 1 oz fresh blood orange juice
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup
  • 2 oz prosecco or sparkling wine
  • Ice
  • Blood orange slice for garnish

Use high-quality vodka for a smoother taste. If blood oranges aren't in season, you can swap them for regular oranges. Adjust the simple syrup amount based on how sweet you like your drinks.

Instructions

  • Fill the cocktail shaker with ice.
  • Add vodka, blood orange juice, and simple syrup to the shaker.
  • Shake well for about 10-15 seconds.
  • Strain the mixture into a tall glass filled with ice.
  • Top with prosecco or sparkling wine.
  • Stir gently with a bar spoon to mix.
  • Garnish with a blood orange slice.
  • Serve right away while the drink is cold and bubbly.

This recipe makes one cocktail, but you can easily scale it up for a crowd.

    Notes

This cocktail is best enjoyed fresh. Don't make it too far in advance or the bubbles will go flat. You can prep the vodka mixture ahead of time and add the sparkling wine just before serving.
For a non-alcoholic version, replace the vodka with soda water and use sparkling grape juice instead of prosecco. You can also add a dash of bitters for extra flavor.
Try different garnishes like rosemary sprigs or thyme for a unique twist. Experiment with other citrus fruits like grapefruit or tangerine to create your own spin on this spritz.
