Equipment

  • Champagne flutes
  • Citrus juicer
  • Knife
  • Cutting Board
  • Cocktail shaker (optional)
  • Bar spoon or long-handled spoon

Ingredients

  • 2 oz 60 ml fresh blood orange juice
  • 4 oz 120 ml chilled Prosecco
  • 1/2 oz 15 ml simple syrup (optional)
  • Blood orange slice for garnish
  • Ice cubes if using a shaker

Fresh blood orange juice is key for the best flavor. You can make simple syrup by mixing equal parts sugar and water, then heating until the sugar dissolves. Chill the Prosecco ahead of time for a colder drink.

Instructions

  • Juice the blood oranges to get 2 oz of fresh juice.
  • If using a shaker, add the juice, simple syrup (if using), and ice. Shake for 10-15 seconds.
  • Strain the mixture into a chilled champagne flute.
  • Slowly pour the Prosecco into the glass. Gently stir with a bar spoon to mix.
  • Garnish with a blood orange slice.

If not using a shaker, simply add the juice and simple syrup to the flute, then top with Prosecco and stir gently.

    Notes

This recipe makes one cocktail. You can easily double or triple the amounts for more servings. Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less simple syrup.
For a non-alcoholic version, replace Prosecco with sparkling water or lemon-lime soda. Blood oranges are usually in season from December to May, but you can use regular orange juice as a substitute.
Serve the cocktail right away to enjoy the bubbles. You can prepare the juice ahead of time, but add the Prosecco just before serving.
