Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or measuring cup
  • Citrus juicer
  • Cocktail strainer
  • Highball glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Ice cube tray
  • Knife and cutting board

Ingredients

  • 2 oz vodka
  • 1 oz elderflower liqueur
  • 2 oz fresh blood orange juice
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup
  • Ice cubes
  • Blood orange slice for garnish
  • Sprig of fresh mint for garnish

Use high-quality vodka for the best taste.

Instructions

  • Fill the cocktail shaker with ice.
  • Add vodka, elderflower liqueur, blood orange juice, and simple syrup to the shaker.
  • Shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds to chill and combine ingredients.
  • Fill a highball glass with fresh ice cubes.
  • Strain the cocktail into the glass.
  • Garnish with a blood orange slice and mint sprig.
  • Stir gently with a bar spoon before serving.

Adjust the simple syrup amount to taste. For a stronger drink, add an extra 1/2 oz of vodka. To make it less sweet, reduce the elderflower liqueur by 1/4 oz.

    Notes

This cocktail is best enjoyed fresh. The blood orange juice can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the fridge for up to 24 hours. For a non-alcoholic version, replace vodka with soda water and elderflower liqueur with elderflower syrup.
The drink pairs well with light appetizers like goat cheese crostini or prosciutto-wrapped melon. Serve it at brunch or as a pre-dinner cocktail. The recipe is easy to scale up for larger gatherings.
