Equipment

  • Blender
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Fine mesh strainer (optional)
  • Ice cube trays
  • Muddler or wooden spoon
  • Serving glasses
  • Cocktail shaker (optional)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh blackberries plus extra for garnish
  • 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves loosely packed
  • 3 tablespoons honey or simple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1 cup coconut water
  • 2 cups ice cubes
  • Sparkling water to top
  • Mint sprigs and lime wedges for garnish

For a sweeter drink, adjust the honey amount to taste. Frozen blackberries can substitute for fresh ones if needed. The coconut water adds subtle flavor, but regular water works too.

Instructions

  • Prepare the berries: Rinse blackberries thoroughly and pat dry.
  • Muddle the mint: Place mint leaves in a cocktail shaker or bowl and gently muddle to release oils.
  • Blend ingredients: Combine blackberries, muddled mint, honey, lime juice, coconut water, and ice in a blender.
  • Pulse until smooth: Blend until you reach a slushy consistency, about 30-45 seconds.
  • Strain if desired: For a smoother texture, strain mixture through a fine mesh sieve to remove seeds.
  • Pour and serve: Fill glasses halfway with the blackberry mixture, then top with sparkling water.
  • Garnish: Add fresh mint sprigs, a few blackberries, and a lime wedge to each glass.
  • Serve immediately while still frozen and slushy for best results.

Notes

This mocktail can be prepared ahead of time by making the blackberry mixture and freezing it. Just thaw slightly before serving.
For a grown-up version, add 1 ounce of white rum or vodka per serving. The recipe works well with other berries too – try raspberries or a berry mix for variety.
For a thicker consistency, freeze some of the blackberries before blending. Those watching sugar intake can replace honey with a sugar-free sweetener.
Store leftover mixture in the freezer for up to 3 days. Allow it to thaw slightly before re-blending to serve.
