Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Muddler or wooden spoon
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Tall glass
  • Measuring jigger
  • Ice

Ingredients

  • 6-8 fresh blackberries
  • 1/2 oz lavender simple syrup
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 2 oz gin
  • Ice
  • Soda water
  • Lavender sprig and blackberry for garnish
  • Fresh blackberries give the best flavor but frozen work too.

To make lavender syrup, steep 1 tablespoon dried lavender in 1 cup hot simple syrup for 30 minutes,

Instructions

  • Add blackberries and lavender syrup to shaker. Muddle well.
  • Pour in lemon juice and gin (if using). Fill shaker with ice.
  • Shake hard for 10-15 seconds.
  • Strain into ice-filled glass.
  • Top with soda water.
  • Stir gently to mix.
  • Garnish with lavender sprig and blackberry.

Muddling the berries releases their juice and color. Shake with ice to chill and dilute slightly. The soda adds fizz, so add it slowly to avoid overflow.

    Notes

Make the syrup ahead of time and chill for faster cocktail prep. The drink can be made in bigger batches for parties. Just multiply the ingredients.
For a stronger lavender flavor, muddle a few dried buds with the berries. Adjust sweetness to taste by adding more or less syrup.
This recipe works well with other berries too. Try raspberries or blueberries for tasty variations.
