Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Strainer
  • Muddler
  • Old fashioned glass
  • Ice crusher or Lewis bag
  • Jigger
  • Bar spoon

Ingredients

  • 2 oz London dry gin
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup
  • 1/2 oz crème de mûre blackberry liqueur
  • 4-5 fresh blackberries
  • Crushed ice
  • Lemon wheel and blackberry for garnish

Instructions

  • Add fresh blackberries to the shaker and muddle until broken down.
  • Pour in gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Fill the shaker with ice cubes and shake for 10-15 seconds.
  • Fill an old-fashioned glass with crushed ice. Strain the mixture into the glass.
  • Drizzle crème de mûre over the top of the drink. The liqueur will sink through the crushed ice, creating a gradient effect.
  • Garnish with a fresh blackberry and lemon wheel.

Notes

Fresh blackberries work best, but frozen can be used when fresh aren't available.
The drink should be served immediately while the crushed ice is fresh.
For a non-alcoholic version, replace gin with club soda and blackberry liqueur with blackberry syrup.
Store simple syrup in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
