Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Muddler
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Collins glass
  • Ice cube tray
  • Measuring jigger
  • Bar spoon

Ingredients

  • 2 oz bourbon
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1 oz simple syrup
  • 6-8 fresh blackberries
  • Club soda
  • Ice cubes
  • Fresh mint leaves and extra blackberries for garnish

Instructions

  • Add blackberries to the shaker and muddle until they release their juices.
  • Pour bourbon, lemon juice, and simple syrup into the shaker.
  • Fill the shaker with ice and shake for 15-20 seconds.
  • Fill a Collins glass with fresh ice.
  • Double strain the mixture into the glass to remove berry seeds.
  • Top with club soda and stir gently.
  • Garnish with fresh blackberries and mint leaves.

Notes

The drink can be made less sweet by reducing the simple syrup to 1/2 oz.
Fresh berries work best, but frozen blackberries can work in a pinch.
Store any leftover simple syrup in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
The cocktail can be made in larger batches for parties - just multiply the ingredients by the number of servings needed.
Pre-chill the glasses for an extra cold drink.
