Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Muddler
  • Strainer
  • Measuring spoons
  • Tall glass
  • Spoon
  • Ice cubes
  • Small bowl

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup fresh blackberries or frozen, thawed
  • 6-8 fresh basil leaves plus extra for garnish
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice about half a lime
  • 1/2 cup sparkling water plain or lime-flavored
  • ice cubes
  • extra blackberries for garnish

Instructions

  • Add blackberries and basil leaves to a cocktail shaker. Muddle gently until berries are juicy and basil is fragrant.
  • Add honey and fresh lime juice to the shaker. Add ice cubes.
  • Shake well for about 20 seconds. Strain into a tall glass, catching seeds and leaves.
  • Top off with sparkling water. Stir gently to mix.
  • Add more ice if desired. Garnish with extra basil leaves and blackberries.

Notes

No shaker? Use a jar with a lid. Use thawed frozen berries if not in season. For more sweetness, add extra honey; for more tang, add more lime. Strain for a smoother drink. Multiply the recipe for a party pitcher.
