Ingredients

  • 2 oz white rum or Cruzan Black Cherry Rum
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 4-5 fresh black cherries pitted and halved
  • 6-8 fresh mint leaves
  • 1-2 tsp sugar or simple syrup
  • 3-4 oz club soda or carbonated lemon-lime beverage like 7-Up
  • Ice cubes
  • Mint sprig for garnish
  • Maraschino cherry for garnish

Instructions

  • Toss the black cherries, mint leaves, and sugar into your glass.
  • Gently muddle them to release the juices and mint oils.
  • Add lime juice and rum.
  • Fill the glass with ice cubes.
  • Top with club soda or lemon-lime soda, almost to the brim.
  • Stir gently with a bar spoon.
  • Garnish with a mint sprig and maraschino cherry.

Notes

Fresh cherries are best, but frozen can be used if thawed first. Adjust sugar based on rum sweetness. Club soda keeps the drink lighter, lemon-lime soda makes it sweeter. Honey syrup can be used instead of sugar for a softer sweetness.
