Equipment

  • Blender or food processor
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Cocktail shaker or mason jar with lid
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Ice cube tray
  • Tall glasses for serving
  • Citrus juicer or reamer
  • Cutting board and knife

Ingredients

  • 1 cup mixed berries strawberries, blueberries, raspberries
  • 2 cups freshly squeezed orange juice about 4-5 oranges
  • 1/4 cup simple syrup equal parts sugar and water, boiled until dissolved
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 cup sparkling water or club soda
  • Ice cubes
  • For garnish: Orange slices fresh berries, mint leaves

For a sweeter drink, add more simple syrup. Fresh orange juice tastes much better than store-bought in this recipe. Frozen berries work well when fresh aren't available.

Instructions

Prepare the berry puree:

  • Wash the berries thoroughly. Place them in a blender and blend until smooth. Strain through a fine mesh strainer to remove seeds.

Mix the base:

  • In a cocktail shaker or large jar, combine the strained berry puree, orange juice, simple syrup, and lime juice. Shake well or stir to mix thoroughly.

Assemble the mocktail:

  • Fill glasses halfway with ice cubes. Pour the berry-orange mixture over the ice until glasses are about 3/4 full.

Finish and serve:

  • Top each glass with sparkling water. Stir gently to combine. Garnish with orange slices, fresh berries, and mint leaves.

The mocktail is best served immediately while cold and fizzy.

    Notes

This recipe makes about 4 servings. The berry puree and juice mixture can be prepared up to 24 hours ahead and stored in the refrigerator.
For a frozen version, blend all ingredients except sparkling water with ice until slushy. Pour into glasses and top with sparkling water.
Try different berry combinations based on what's in season. Blackberries add a deeper flavor, while strawberries make it sweeter.
For a kid-friendly party version, set up a DIY mocktail bar with the base mixture and various garnishes so everyone can customize their drinks.
Add a sugar rim by dipping glass edges in orange juice, then in colored sugar for a festive touch.
