  • Moka pot
  • small serving glass
  • heat-safe cup

Ingredients

  • 1 scoop vanilla gelato or vanilla ice cream
  • 1 shot hot espresso or strong brewed coffee; about 1 oz
  • 1 oz liqueur of choice amaretto, Frangelico, Kahlúa, Baileys, rum, or whiskey
  • shaved chocolate optional garnish
  • crushed biscotti optional garnish
  • cocoa powder optional dusting

Instructions

  • Brew a fresh shot of espresso using an espresso machine or moka pot.
  • Scoop cold vanilla gelato into a small glass.
  • Pour the liqueur over the gelato.
  • Quickly add the hot espresso on top.
  • Garnish with shaved chocolate, crushed biscotti, or a dusting of cocoa powder. Serve immediately.

Notes

Amaretto adds almond sweetness; Frangelico brings hazelnut; Kahlúa or Baileys make it extra creamy. Rum or whiskey yields a bolder, less sweet dessert. Strong coffee can stand in for espresso if needed. Serve right away so the hot espresso and cold gelato stay in contrast.
