Blue Curacao Tequila Sunrise Cocktail Recipe
I like this drink because it combines the classic tequila sunrise look with the tropical flavor of blue curaçao. It’s refreshing and easy to make.
It also looks great in the glass with all those orange, red, and blue layers.
Equipment
- Highball glass – I usually grab a tall glass so the layers really show.
- Cocktail shaker – Helps me mix up the tequila and citrus juice before pouring.
- Bar spoon – I use the back of the spoon to pour the grenadine or blue curaçao slowly.
- Jigger or measuring tool – Keeps the flavors balanced.
- Citrus juicer – Fresh-squeezed orange and lime juice just taste better.
- Ice cubes – I fill the glass with enough ice to keep things cold without watering it down.

- 2 oz tequila

Notes
This cocktail just tastes better with fresh juice. Bottled juice doesn’t quite do the trick.
Natural citrus lets the tequila shine without being harsh. I only use a little grenadine or syrup, since too much can drown out the citrus.
Blue curaçao works as both flavor and decoration, giving a hint of orange liqueur and that final pop of color. If I’m in the mood for even more citrus, I’ll add a splash of triple sec.
Some days, if I want it lighter, I cut back on the tequila and pour in a bit more orange juice.

- Slowly pour grenadine down the side of the glass so it sinks to the bottom.
- Gently drizzle blue curaçao over the top using the back of a spoon.
- Add a small float of triple sec if desired. Garnish with an orange slice or cherry. Serve immediately.
