Virgin Mojito With Fresh Mint Mocktail Recipe
I keep coming back to the virgin mojito because it’s so refreshing and light—no alcohol needed. Fresh mint, lime, and sparkling water just work, especially when it’s warm out or when I want a non-alcoholic cocktail at home.
Equipment
I don’t use anything complicated for this drink. A muddler is great for pressing the mint leaves and lime wedges to get their oils and juice out.
If I can’t find my muddler, I just grab the back of a wooden spoon. Works in a pinch.
A sturdy glass is important, though—something that won’t crack when you muddle. Tall glasses are my go-to since there’s room for ice and sparkling water.

Ingredients
Fresh is always better here. Mint leaves should be bright and green, not sad and wilted.
Fresh lime is way better than bottled juice—trust me on that one.
Here’s what I throw together:
- 8–10 fresh mint leaves
- 1 lime, cut into wedges
- 2 teaspoons sugar or 1 ounce simple syrup
- 1 teaspoon agave syrup (optional)
- ½ cup crushed ice
- ½ cup sparkling water or club soda
- Extra lime wedges and mint sprigs for garnish
Sugar and lime balance out the mint, and the sparkling water or club soda adds fizz without messing with the flavor.
Instructions
First, I toss the lime wedges and sugar into the bottom of my glass. I muddle them gently until the juice comes out and the sugar starts to dissolve.
I try not to crush the lime peel too much since that can make things bitter.
Next, I tear the mint leaves a bit before adding them. Press them just enough to get the oils out, but don’t go wild.
Then, I fill the glass halfway with crushed ice.
Pour in the sparkling water or club soda, give it all a good stir, and that’s pretty much it. I’ll usually finish with a bit more ice if there’s room and add a mint sprig and lime wedge on top.

Club soda and sparkling water both work fine, but sparkling water usually has a smoother fizz in my experience. Sometimes I’ll add extra lime if I want it more tangy.
